wait who? vs Clay (Now Mesh): Personal CRM vs LinkedIn Relationship Memory
Clay, the personal CRM, is now called Mesh. An honest comparison with wait who?: pricing, where each gets its data, LinkedIn depth, and where Mesh is the better choice.
First, the name. If you're looking for Clay, the personal CRM at clay.earth: it's now called Mesh, at me.sh. Mesh's own announcement, dated March 26, 2026, reads "Today, Clay is becoming Mesh", and clay.earth redirects there (me.sh/stories/mesh). Same product and team; Mesh says the rename was partly about the crowded name, since clay.com is a different, much bigger company that sells sales data enrichment. This page compares wait who? with the personal CRM, Mesh. Nothing here is about clay.com.
Who each product is for
Mesh is a personal CRM for every channel you use. Its integrations page lists email (Gmail, Outlook), Google Calendar, iMessage, WhatsApp, phone calls, your address book, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter (X), CSV, Notion, Zapier and Make (me.sh/integrations). It builds one profile per person from those sources, suggests people you haven't spoken to in a while based on calls, calendar events, emails and messages, keeps birthdays, surfaces job changes and news mentions in a Home feed, and has apps for Mac, Windows, web, iPhone and Android. Its homepage headline is "Every relationship, remembered", and for a life spread across many apps it's a thoughtful way to do that.
wait who? is narrower on purpose: relationship memory for your LinkedIn network. It connects to your own LinkedIn account, brings in every connection and follower with the real date you connected, remembers who reacted to and commented on your posts, and gives you a short daily list of people worth talking to, each with the reason, plus a drafted first message. It's for people whose working relationships mostly live on LinkedIn and have outgrown their memory of them.

Where Mesh is the better choice
- Your people are everywhere, not just on LinkedIn. Mesh sees your email, calendar, texts and calls, and builds reminders from real conversations across all of them. wait who? only sees LinkedIn.
- You want it free. Mesh Personal is free for up to 1,000 contacts. wait who?'s free look gives you 7 days with your own network, a few message drafts and one engagement scan; ongoing drafts, engagement memory and the weekly re-sync are on the €27 plan.
- You want apps on your phone and desktop. Mesh has them; wait who? is a web app.
- You care about birthdays, news mentions and a contact book that syncs back to your phone's address book. That's Mesh's home turf.
- Price, if you pay annually: Mesh Pro at $120 a year is well under wait who?'s €270 a year.
Where wait who? is the better choice
It fills itself from LinkedIn, all of it. You connect your LinkedIn account once and your whole network comes in, connections and followers, with the date you connected. No extension clicking, no CSV, no data entry. On the plan it re-syncs about weekly, so a new job shows up without you visiting anyone's profile.
It tells you who to talk to, and why. The daily list is ranked for what you're working on, whether that's raising a round, finding customers, hiring or partnerships, and every name comes with a reason built from real LinkedIn signals: they commented on your post, they just changed jobs, you connected years ago and never talked. Reminders tell you who you haven't spoken to; reasons tell you what to say.
It remembers who engaged with your posts, with their words, long after LinkedIn's notifications have scrolled away. Those people are the warmest list most of us never use.
It drafts the first message and leaves the sending to you. Nothing is sent, posted or invited without your click. And when the network has gotten too noisy, the Clean up tab sorts out the connections you could let go of, which you then remove on LinkedIn yourself (or use our free cleanup checklist and do it by hand).
Searching for a Clay alternative?
If you liked Clay and just lost track of it after the rename, you probably don't need an alternative: it's Mesh now, at me.sh. If you're leaving because LinkedIn is where your work actually happens and you want more from that network than a contact record, wait who? is built for exactly that, and it's free to connect and look at your own network first. For a wider view, our personal CRM roundup compares Mesh, Dex, folk and Cloze with dated pricing, and there's a separate wait who? vs Dex page.
The honest bottom line
Choose Mesh if you want a mostly automatic contact book for your whole life, with a free tier and phone apps. Choose wait who? if LinkedIn is where your work relationships live and you want your network ranked, explained and ready to message. They overlap less than the "personal CRM" label suggests.
Questions people ask
What happened to Clay, the personal CRM?
It renamed itself Mesh. Mesh's announcement, dated March 26, 2026, says "Today, Clay is becoming Mesh", and the domain moved from clay.earth to me.sh, which clay.earth now redirects to. The company was acquired by Automattic in 2025, and the me.sh footer reads Automattic Inc. It is still a personal CRM. It is not the same company as clay.com, the sales data enrichment tool.
How much does Mesh (formerly Clay) cost?
As of October 2026, Mesh has a free Personal plan for up to 1,000 contacts. Mesh Pro is $20 a month, or $120 a year (which works out to $10 a month), with unlimited contacts. Teams starts at $49 per seat per month for up to four members on monthly billing, shown as $40 per seat on the annual pricing page. Sign-up starts a Pro trial automatically, and Mesh asks for a credit card for trials. Source: me.sh/pricing and Mesh's subscription plans help article.
Does Mesh sync LinkedIn?
Mesh lists LinkedIn among the sources you can import people from, says it tracks job changes in its Home feed, and has a browser extension that adds a LinkedIn profile to Mesh in one click. We could not confirm from Mesh's own help pages, as of October 2026, whether it signs in to your LinkedIn account and keeps adding new connections over time, so check that during the trial if it matters to you.
Is wait who? a Clay alternative?
For LinkedIn, yes. wait who? connects to your own LinkedIn account, brings in your whole network with real connection dates on the first sync, remembers who engaged with your posts, gives you a short daily list of people worth a message with a reason for each, and drafts the first line. It does not import email, calendar, iMessage or WhatsApp, and it has no mobile app, which Mesh does. If you want one contact book for every channel, stay with Mesh.
Can I use Mesh and wait who? together?
Yes. Mesh can be the contact book across email, calendar and messages, while wait who? does the LinkedIn work: post engagement, job changes in your connections, the daily short list for your goal, and cleaning up connections you'd let go of.
